Can?t install XP after HDD crashed

    Here is the situation:

Old notebook, Compaq EvoN610C had a 30GB HDD that crashed with no data recovery possible.
Bought a new one (160gb this time) initialized and formatted through an external case now I should be able to install the disk back into that notebook and install XP... BUT old compaq doesn?t have floppy nor does the dvd-rom work or BIOS support USB boot, so WTF how can I install XP? Any ideas?

    Regards.

if i remember right, some computers will let you install OS's from a network. setup files located on your local network..

Why doesn't the DVD-ROM work? Physically broken, or not noticed by the BIOS?

Either way, you can purchase a USB CD/DVD drive for about $15 and install it that way.

If the drive is just broken, purchase a used one off of eBay.

Thank you, I don`t remember seeing that option on BIOS setup, but will double check.

          Thanks for your answer...
Yeap, dvd-rom ****ed up not a bios issue.
Used Compaq dvd-rom off ebay should be last option, i`m south america and shipping is probably more than the actual drive.
And remember I said usb boot is not an option for that bios.

          Cheers.

Buy an external CD or DVD drive that hooks up through your USB. This isn't a USB Boot option ... Its just an external CD/DVD drive.

I should boot at least once to be able to use an external cd/dvd drive, otherwise on bootup I`d get "no system disk or disk error"...

You may trie to install windowx xp on another PC and after the first restart, you take out the harddrive and install in youre Compaq. Then boot and finish with the instalation.
                May work!

Allright, haven`t thought of that... Not sure if it would work tough.
                  Thanks!

Take the HDD out and clone(ghost) it in another pc/laptop

Smirnoff thanks man, this is an old crap so it has an IDE drive.

Haven`t paid much attention this weekend so I might keep it for spares.
                        Regards!
