    memory probs :(

    hi all
    i have a stone desk top 2.80GHz pentium D with only 2x512 sticks in it.
    now ive got 2x1gigs sticks but it will only use 1 slot both sticks work fine if i use 1 at a time but not both togather
    the bios just says 1 slot is not in use any ideas??

    You may have to flash the bios, have you got the original mother board bios CD.

        Open the computer read the chipset if it?s Intel you should be able to download from there website, or try our old friend google.

            Have you swapped the 1gb memory sticks around so they have both been swapped slot 1 and 2 .
            Also have you tried putting one of the 512mb memory in slot 2 and slot 1 alternatively with 1gb in the other to see if it recognises each ram and configuration.
            I had a problem like this with a laptop where one 1gb memory stick did not show up but worked fine in another laptop still don't know why but it seemed to seat better in the one it worked in.
            I dont think this will be a bios problem, check with a free program like speccy to see if it see's the ram if its not showing on the system mine did show in speccy which points more to a connection problem of the ram in the slot.

              check the BIOS is up to date, check the RAM works in another machine if you can, if not possible motherboard connection issue?

                How old is the motherboard, some motherboard will only accept 512mb each slot and not 1 GB, try and change them to 2X512mb and settle for 1 GB.
