If it's frozen & asking for a code then you will probably be better off taking it to a local shop that unlocks phones.
If by frozen you mean it keeps crashing or locking up, then you can flash it using Multiloader v5.56 & a number of available flash files. The latest I can find for the UK is S523WXXJC1 released march 2010.
Everything you need is at samfirmware.com, but you will need to register before you can download.
as far as unlocking goes, either the same local shop or ebay. There are no free codes available for this phone.Canker
