    Unlocking ANdroid Mobile Phone

    Hello,
    I have had my son who has a HTC Wildfire Desire HD on an 18 month T-Mobile contract which ends this month. I want to put him on Virgin media sim only deal. I was told by T-mobile that they would charge ?30 for unocking the phone which seems a bit extreme as I thought you can usually find someone at local market to do it for a lot cheaper. My son is worried that if I have it unlocked by someone at the market then the update won't work on his phone. Is he right to be concerned and whats my best option?

    unlocking a phone to use a different provider will not stop any updates to android from htc being installed.

      The HTC wildfire can be unlocked with the xtc clip. Not sure about the Desire HD as I'm to lazy to plug the box in & look.
      Unlocking a phone with the clip will not stop you updating the software. Infact it makes it easier.

      A shop should only be charging a max of ?15 to unlock a phone using the xtc clip.
      If you lived close to me I'd do it for you.

      Ok I beat the lazy bug. The Desire HD is also supported.

            Some of the early Rooting solutions for unlocking android phones would be undone if the software was updated.

            Not as bad as with an Ishite, but still just as annoying.

            I don't do rooting, so not sure on the state of play in todays world.

              rooting is easy mate.

              [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY8TFZ2Owk0"]How to Root HTC Desire HD - YouTube[/ame]

              have a look at LeeDrOiD ROMs Official Mini-Site! one of the best rom and kernel developer out there.

              [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87qLs3cWyks"]LeeDrOiD HD V5.1.1 - HTC Desire HD - YouTube[/ame]

              If you use a custom rom then you wont get the OTA update but tbh I dont think you will be expecting to get any.
