    blackberry 9700 bold problem

I'd appreciate any help with this:-

I took a chance and bought a secondhand blackberry bold 9700 from a former colleague. It was originally on vodafone network so took to shop and got it unlocked onto tmobile. The phone recognises the sim and I can get my contacts etc.., but can't make calls ( says 'authorisation code') also can't receive calls - just says currently unavailable. Sim cards fine as it works in other phone.
Does this mean that the phone is blocked? and if so, is there anything I can do to unblock it? or have I just got a rather nice alarm clock?

I'm guessing it's been set up to work with BlackBerry Mobile Voice System...

Have a look here: BlackBerry - Manuals and Guides

I think you'll need to get your friend to let you have the code so you can disable this feature!

May be a Factory Reset will work:

How to reset Blackberry Bold 9700 to factory settings. one simple way to clean your Blackberry Bold 9700 info entirely is to reset it to factory defaults or you can wipe your personal BlackBerry Bold 9700 info and keep your third party applications.

Before you reset your Blackberry 9700,you had better back up your data if you need it again!

From your Blackberry Bold 9700, Press the BlackBerry key > select Options> select Security Options > General Settings > select Wipe Handheld > it will warning that all application data will be lost. If you select include third party applications and then select continue. It will delete all data on your Blackberry Bold 9700. if you select it, you will keep your applications > then you should enter your password blackberry to confirm wipe. Now you have reset Blackberry Bold 9700 to its factory settings...

        Not tested by me...

I also found this it looks easier!!

All you have to do is press the all buttons: ALT + SHIFT + DEL and the phone will reboot and voila your phone is set to factory settings.

Once your BlackBerry BOLD 9700 has fully rebooted, all prior information should be erased from the device and it should be restored back to the default factory settings.

Just to insert a missing piece of info.

Once in the General Settings you need to press the menu button to be able to select Wipe Handheld.

Didn't know about the ALT+SHIFT+DEL. Will try this out.

Hi, Thanks for helping, it did reboot but still getting call failed, starting to think this may be a dodgy phone - blocked or something. But when I check the status of the sim etc.. (typing MEPD) it tells me they're all disabled.
checked the applications and theres no mvs client on there either.
              Will still try looking tho,

Give the network a call & get the IMEI checked for blacklisting. They won't be able to tell you why, but they will give a yes or no answer.

In the top left of the screen does it show a signal strength or does it say 'off'?

If 'off' you need to turn on the network connection in the main menu. It looks like a signal mast icon.

tried the ALT+SHIFT+DEL on an 8900. It took several attempts but it did restart the phone. Not sure if it also wiped the handset as it was already wiped.

yea it's showing signal strength, I think I might do what you suggested and give the network a ring - think that may be my only option.

                  Thanks for the help!

T-Mobile allows you onto the network but will not process a call...

O2 and Orange will not let you onto the network at all. I can't remember if Vodafone allows you on or not?

Either way... I think it's blacklisted either from being reported lost/stolen or non-payment of contract!!
