Standard def on my humax foxsat hd box

I've recently bought a new Samsung 60" HD smart Plasma and I have noticed that the res is only 720x576 on the TV screen obviously via hdmi port that my humax foxsat HD box is plugged into. Should it not be 1080? It does state 1080 on the banner on the HD channel I'm watching via the HD box remote when viewing the HD channel... I hope I'm not being thick?!

check the output settings on the freesat stb to make sure its sending 1080i down the hdmi cable to the tv,regards mdt
