hello, i have just purchased a starview HD combo cable, and satelite reciever, if i install a sky dish, and point it to the correct bird, will it detect freesat, and hopefully HD

Should do. You'll need to be pointing at 28 degrees East to get Freesat. Only HD channels on there right now that you'll get access to is BBC HD, Luxe HD and now and again ITV1 HD though. Channel 4 HD is still with Sly atm.
