Take the Cas3 out of the box - you should have the following items:
The Cas3 unit - a short lead with a terminal at each end - a green dummy card with a terminal on.
You will also need a usb cable to connect between your pc and the Cas3. The cable will have square type plug at one end for the usb terminal on the back of the Cas3.
Installing the software and Cas3:
Find the latest Cas Studio software (currently ver.7.9c). This is usually in the Cas Interface forum on this site - or Duolabs own site.
Unzip the software file to a new folder on your pc.
Install the software.
Open the program - it should now be in Demo mode.
Connect the Cas3 with the usb lead to your computer. At this point you may get a message asking for a driver. The driver does not always install automatically. Either use the wizard if it appears - or got to device manager on your pc and install the driver from there.
Once the driver is installed correctly, a green icon will appear at the bottom left of the programme window along with the serial number. At this point, close the programme and remove the usb plug from the back of the Cas3 unit.
Reboot your computer.
Now you are ready to prepare the Cas3.
The lead that came in the box with the Cas3 - one end connects to the terminal on the righthand side of the Cas3 - the other end to the terminal on the green dummy card.
There are two slots on the front of the Cas3 - the top one is for loader cards etc - the bottom one is a cam slot. Cams such as Dragon and Diablo can be plugged straight into this bottom slot for loading direct to the cam.
This method saves loading a card in the top slot, then placing the card in the cam afterwards while in your receiver - then waiting again for the card to load the cam. You may as well use this more direct method to save time.
The Dragon will need the dummy card inserted into the cam for this faster method. The Diablo will not need the dummy card. There are notes below on using Diablo or Dragon.
When plugging a cam in:
Make sure the usb power cable is unplugged to protect your cam.
Make sure the cam is seated firmly in the bottom slot. Usually top side up. There are two guides on the front edge of the cam, which prevents it being fully inserted incorrectly.
Try to keep the cam straight on insertion and removal - this is to prevent damage to the pins on the Cas3 and your cam.
To load a Cam or Card:
Start the programme into Demo mode with Cas3 unplugged.
Insert the cam or card into the Cas3.
The Dragon cam will need the dummy card inserted into the cam. The cable terminal on the card faces downwards. The Diablo plugs straight into the Cas3 - and does not need the dummy card.
Once you have placed the cam or loader card in the Cas3 - fully connect the usb pwer cable - after a few seconds the software will recognise the device and open a selection window. You are ready to load. If this fails to happen, it is best to start again from scratch, including reinserting the cam.
For cams - select the cam tab. For cards - select the smartcard tab. The options for your type or cam or card will then appear for you to select. In the case of card it may ask you to temporarily remove the card before selecting the smartcard tab. Reinsert card when that is done.
Loading a card is the same as loading a cam - you just select the correct slot and different tabs in the software.
When you have loaded the cam or card and exited the programme - remove usb cable first before taking out the cam.
Other info:
A loader card is a card that you install files to - then place in your cam while it is in your stb. Usually the stb should be on standby on a fta channel - The cam then downloads the files from the loader card once the stb is turned on.
A dragon loader card goes in the top slot of the Cas3 - plain side up. Or if you prefer - the chip on the card must be facing downwards.
For other loading details for various cams and cards - and procedures of which files to load first - please look at the guides in the relevant forum for your item.
