This may be common knowledge but I didn't know !
If your box is slightly too far away from your couch and the remote doesn't work unless you move closer to the box - try this (It worked for me....)
tape some silver foil to the outside of your remote creating an extension tube to the end - I think it concentrates the beam forward instead of loosing some of the power to the sides, You have to be a bit more accurate in pointing the remote at the box but is saves me from having to get up every time I want to change channel.
