to be honest i would not recommend this method for flashing a DM500 as it can be very buggy and can lead to a bad flash which would need a null modem cable to correct. i would always recommend using a null modem cable to flash a DM500 it is far safer and a lot less troublesome than any other method.Comment

It was my fault when i renamed the image the file changed and telnet was unable to find the image file in tmp.so i went to a friends place used his computer and flashed it with serial cable worked fine for somtime i was able to setup the network ip,then it started rebooting again and again, but now i flashed it with telnet and its been working fine.even though the image was coming on and of i was able to use telnet to flash my box.Comment

Dragging up an old post here ... When i login on putty i enter root as the dm800 login and then 'root @dm800:~#' comes up. Where do i go from here? Tried changing the password with the passwd command but i can't type in a new password - it just wont enter anything... Any advice appreciatedComment

Hi
If I remember correctly thats right, when you are entering new password you cant see anything so just type it as you would normally then press enter then it will ask you to repeat it.
Again you wont see anything being typed and once youve typed it in press enter and you should get a message saying password changed.
