new DM500s - do I need to st up satellite channels if I am using HTPC

Hi, my first post on here, apologies if this is a simple question. I'm using my HTPC sat cards to view the satellite content. On the DB500s, if I'm only using this to validate my sky card, then do I need to set up all the channels on the DB500s or can I bypass this and just load the newcs/cccam plugins after loading the image. And which image is the best, gemini or nabilo ?
