    Technomate 5200D Super-"LNBF" Problem

    Hi!

I have here Technomate TM-5200D USB Super, great receiver, very happy with it!

    Fault description:

Couple of weeks ago LNBF sign came up at numeric board (unit) what by description seems to be warning about a short on cable or - faulty LNB. However, there is no fault, such all channels actually working as before, just unit LCD screen is stuck in "LNBF" message.
Just in case I checked TV point with another receiver and everything is same - all up and working well.

I did re-search about this problem and desided to download from Your website software update "Technomate-TM5300D_5200D_SUPER_116_19-08-2009.stb" and upload it to my receiver.

After doing it my receiver still have LNBF message at unit screen but now I have new problem. LNBF warning message appears also on my TV screen every couple of seconds and dissapears and comes back again, now I can not watch anything at all ,such message is continously blinking there...

    Is there any way:

    A) To switch off this message from TV screen using receiver menu settings

    or

    B) is there available original (first)firmware where LNBF warning stays only at unit screen not at TV screen (problem not has been "fixed" yet) so I can bring my unit back to condition as before my software upload.
I prefer to have continous LNBF message at unit lcd screen and I still be able to use receiver as normal than have now completley useless unit....

My guarantee is just about over and shop where I purchased it does not want to deal with me,they said I must to contact Technomate about my problem.

    I did but no answer...

I appreciate if somebody can spend a minute to download unmodified software from them 5200D Super set-top box and post/link this firmware so I can bring my unit back in original (software) condition or may explain how to turn this warning message off from the screen.

    Many thanks indeed!

      Sorry,I did not explain clear

I have downloaded official software dated 19-08-2009
It gives me this warning message on screen,

I do need something from 2008 when box was first introduced and firmware bugs was not fixed yet. That leaves me at least warning free screen.

Even any darkman patch from 2008 would do because they are made over official firmare anyway.

august 2009 patch have LNBF message "fixed" so now I have message on box and screen,so it is not possible to watch tv (message keeps blinking)

          Thanks,mate!

          I found solution,

          Technomate software online

          and version 111p

          Downloaded and installed.

          Problem solved.
          Works,records (includ. timeshift) ok.
No annoying message box any more blinking..
Receiver own display still LNBF but that's not a hassle any more

          Cheers!

here is some info to try and repair lnbf fault
remember if box under gaurantee go to supplier first before tampering
i copied this info from a repair site as kept seeing people with this problem so kept it in case i ever needed it i have not done this repair and is advise only if you do not feel confident enough to do this then take to electrical repairer and you can allways say that you think this is the problem.

How to Repair LNBF In The Message ScreenProcedure 1:
1 .- Turn off the receiver's rear switch ... (disconnect it from the outlet for 15 minutes)
2 .- Disconnect the cable from the lnb (sat in)
3 .- Now turn the receiver again ...
If the message does not appear, try another lnb, also check all the connections it could be a short circuit.

                  Procedure 2:
If the message persists, follow these instructions:
The LNBF error usually means that the transistor Tip42C exploded.
Here and try and fix the problem.
You need a voltmeter in volts DC.
1 .- First you need to check the voltage at sat in connection.
2 .- Connect a short coaxial cable to the Sat input in and check the voltage between the copper and the screw connector.
3 .- With the receiver ON you should get voltage variations from 13V-18V DC as change
                  from vertical to horizontal transponders.
4 .- If no voltage or only 20V then you most likely have a transistor operated either Tip42c or KA317. This unit changes the voltage of your LNB 13V and 18V. 18V = Horizontal TP's
                  13V = Vertical TP's
When they fail or will not have to stay in voltage or 20V or 13V and only you can get horizontal or vertical transponders on the receiver. If no voltage then you get the message No Signal.
Take off the cap to your box and look at the card looking for a small black transistor (it has the metal top with a hole, the pin heat sink and three below) is located about an inch in front of where you connect the cable from the lnb .
Could be attached to a heat sink but not in all cases.
Make sure it is correct, part or in case Tip42c is Viewsat, and Sonicview CNX is the KA317.
The Tip42C is located directly opposite the chrome box where you connect the coaxial cable.

It is black metal and plastic top with a pin hole and three soldiers to the card.
Tip42C or KA317 is printed on the black plastic. Viewsat Ultra's, Sonicview and use the Fairchild KA317 CNX and is mounted on the heat sink. If the KA317 is damaged in an LNBF CNX get the message Error. Write as if you ride is soldered to the contrary will not work. If you are receiving a message and you have no signal voltage at the connector Sat in, connect the
lnb cable with a screwdriver and touch the first two pins toward the back of the receiver at the same time. If obtiens signal then this transistor is bad and must be replaced. The NTE332 transistor is a direct replacement if you can not find Tip42C. TIP42 or Tip42B not work.
The approximate cost is $ 2.00. You must be Tip42C or NTE332 or in the case of Viewsat, and Sonicview CNX Fairchild KA317.
The direct replacement to the Fairchild LM317T KA317. The NTE332 costs about $ 5.00 but is more robust and are worth the extra money. Available at most electronic stores.
To replace make sure that you write like this soldier, despegelo the heat sink if it stuck to one, remove the motherboard and below the three pin desold using the proper tool, insert new transistor and resolder, attach the heat sink if there was one.

Thanks for this excellent informative post. Please clarify I have a Technomate 5402HD. It works fine for upto an hour then shows LNBF on front of led display no polarity is then available. I have checked the mother board as explained in your post and there a 317T which is heat sink mounted on left hand edge of motherboard. Is it still likely to be the 317T that is the problem or a short circuit detection circuit before the 317T?
Thanks for your reply in advance.
