are you using usals on your tm500? there are a number of points you can check to find the problem and each one must be checked....

    1.. pole is 100% plumb
2.. lat is correct on motor
3.. motor is set to zero
    4.. lat/long correct on stb
5.. send motor to 1 west
6.. find bbc world then peak signal to max
7.. check say 28.2e and 30w for good signal on ALL uk recievable txp,s

You can do all the above which is good advice ,But without a meter you are all guessing and hoping you have your dish setup right, most times it doesn't work that way and you spend endless days up and down the ladder, do yourself a favour and get an engineer to line it up doesn't cost that much.

try this guide but only if you cant get it going by tinkering as this will start it from scratch but as said by MDT pole must be 100% plumb and dish must be 100% central on the motor spigot or you dont stand a chance of tracking the arc properly, but you can set it up successfully yourself as most of us do.the on screen meter on the tm500 is fine.
