I've uploaded the new patch (ph), added the addon as the pdf article said, rebooted, and .... nothing. Clearly doing something wrong here. Any ideas? Brand new TM 5412, first attempt at updating it.

hmm, guess you can tell this is my first time right..
So, switched box on, have a motorised dish. Tried to update the Tm own software (although the number of release software failed to change in the system info box). Then added the Ph patch (117) and addon as the satstation pdf said. Rebooted (just on/off) and nothing had changed. According to the print out I should be able to type in 8281 etc and obviously can't. Just a noob here. Any steps where I go from here? Really don't have a clue..

i can tell you didn't do much reading on the forum yet all the info is realy here .
I asume your loading the patch and add-on wrong
you have to put the files on a usb device and then goto usb menu then data tranfer menu and scroll to the file you want to download to your tm and press ok on your remote.
If you press upload you will just create a file of the patch/firmware you are using at the moment also important is the way you load the patches/firmware to avoid problems if your going to use cccam/newcamd(cs)
                  always follow
1)back up channel list(in datatransfer menu press green button this creates .cndf file on usb device)
                  2)factory reset
3)load original technomate firmware(can be got from Technomate software online)
                  4)factory reset
5)load latest patch (can be got from Technomate software online)
5.1)(after this load latest addon if you did not do this before, after this 8281 will work)
                  6)factory reset
7)put back channellist(same as patch/firmware ok on cndf file>ok on normal) and rescan all channels in use
if you don't use this method in between patches you might get stuck with bugs/problems on your tm
cause old bits of patches/firmware may remain in your tm.
and it is very important to do factory resets ,in motorised setups make sure to take note of your longitude/latitude for USALS
and reload them before you rescan sats in use
