Dead 6900 Super & looking for some advice

    Hi All,

Just looking for some help at the moment to judge if it's worth a repair or to get a new box.

To explain. I noticed that the time on the box was indicating that the power had been interrupted overnight, so I popped on the box, got the time updated and put it back into stand by.

I came back to realise that the time had frozen a few minutes after I had put it into stand by. So I threw the mains off and left it a few minutes and tried to power up the box, without any luck. It appears to be completely dead, I checked the TV a/v channel in case the display was dead, but with no effect.

I've ran through the normal bits, reflashing, but it's clearly very dead. It is over two and a half years old, so into possible new box territory.

I have read pulsaruk's thread on the 7102 and would take the plunge. However, I'm quite attached to my 6900, it was my first box, replacing the $ky HD Box, opening my eyes to everything beyond 28E!

Just looking for any thoughts on possible repair, or do I just move on?

    Cheers

could be a simpel enough thing like the the capacitors if you lift the lid off the receiver, and look at the power supply board, youll see small 'cans' , if the tops of these are slightly bulging,or wurse that could be your problem and they need replacing new ones only cost a few pound and they are more heat resistant then before you could always send it to technomate to let them have a look but it will cost you might still be cheaper then buying a new box.
And of course rule out the simpel things first like fuses and cables ect.

Can have a look at that and let you know. Very familiar with bulging capacitors, had one of the first Thomson $ky HD boxes with the very suspect power supply cards, which according to $ky, were not an issue, until it was out of warranty of course!

I'll drop Technomate an email and see what they say also.

            Quick update.

Been into the box and the power board appears to be fine, suggesting a problem elsewhere

Waiting on a reply from Technomate.

treat yourself to a new box, tm5402hd would be a good starting point if you like technomate recievers and (dont all shoot me a once!) a tm800hd. regards mdt

the tm6902 combo would be a nice upgrade too the same as you have now only more memory and all the extra new features apart from that the same as the 6900 super

Just a short one to say thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help.

Currently puzzling myself over the pro & cons of all the different boxes! Feeling more than a bit confused, but then that's easily done!

technomate can be very slow in responding to e-mail
they have some kind of spam filter and if you don't get through
that they will not answer you mail your better of to ring and ask for technical support and then ask what they can reccomend for your dead 6900 super
