Try one of these numbers 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 as these channels are in the middle of the two tv signals that are used to broadcast. hope this helps

Sorry that should have been from 38 to 47 and all in between. I live in Northern ireland and all british broadcast are from 21 to 37 and have another aerial for irish broadcasts and they are from 48 to 68.

In the 5402 menu can you check that it is set to output PAL-I, same page as changing channel.

No it's not normal. I can pick up a signal on all rf channel numbers I tried with varying degrees of quality but found 60 to be the clearest for me

I have tried all the channels - a couple worked but the quality was so poor you could not watch tv on it. The setting is the pal 1. Someone mentioned that I may need a powered amplifier as the sky box could have been using the power from the sky box. Does anyone think this sounds likely?

Disconnect the terrestrial aerial from the 5402 and connect the RF out to the main TV and try to tune in there.( Make sure you are using the Analogue tuner of the TV).

Sorry I am not sure what you mean (i must be a bit thick) - I have been trying to tune the tv in the kitchen - not the main one. The main tv works fine.

this is from a TM 5400 but should be similar to yours.
"video format" should either be PAL or auto
                    "rf type" PAL1
and on the TV menu system 1 is critical this from an LG but your menus should be similar. the back ground picture is through the RF.

You should not need an inline amplifier to boost the signal from the RF out of the 5402 as it is already amplified internally, The first thing to do is have a look for the Freeview frequency's for your area and then choose an RF channel which is well away from those frequency's.

Also look at do you have wall plate's at either end of your coax run as these can sometimes cause picture interference.

Dick B - The set up you showed is the same as on my receiver and tv. I have checked every rf channel - only 2 worked at all both very badly - not watchable.

I am not certain what wall plates are but surely if it was a problem it would have been a problem with my old sky box?

On your previous setup with the Sky box did you have both the Freeview and Sky signal in the other room

Yes I did have both and no I don't have wall plates.

Have you tried my earlier suggestion from Post#22, as this should determine whether the 5402 is giving an output via the RF lead and not just via HDMI or Scart.

Not quite sure what you mean - do you mean check the main tv with the rf output direct into that and not via the 5402?
