Technomate Newbie - A few questions

    Hi all,

I've just got today a Technomate TM-5402 HD. It's plugged in and working, I've patched it and installed CCcam.

I got a free trial from Boss CCcam, I'm not 100%, the channels seemed a little jumpy and he wants subscription fee by Western Union which holds a 60% surcharge!! All sounds a little funny, not to mention a rip off! Does anyone have any alternative recommendations?

Also, the displays isn't graphically brilliant. Is there any alternatives to download/upgrade to?

Youtube reminds me of something from my Spectrum ZX . Again, any alternatives? I was expecting something like you see on an iPhone or something.

Can channels be grouped, e.g. like what you would get on a Sky+ box? I'm going to sort through the channels later so browsing is a little less time consuming!

Is there any way of browsing the internet, e.g. downloading a browser?

Overall, pretty impressed. Apologies if this was excessive newbie, but I've just ditched the Sky box for the first time in 7 years.

    Cheers,

    Dave

P.S. Please post replies in a lamens-friendly way

If you had wanted an EPG sytem to look nearly as good as the Sly one then you would have been better with a Linux receiver as they are far more configurable than a closed source box like the TM5402, Dont get me wrong it has loads of good points just not as many.

The menu layout i am afraid to say seems to be stuck in the 90's which it has not changed in a long time an overhaul is overdue by technomate so sorry you cant replace or change it.

Channel list are available from many members on this very forum you can either create your own with the TM channel editor or download one and customise it form there.

As for the first bit with BossCCcam then its end more than likely as i know the 5402 is rock solid satble with both CCcam and newcamd, we cant advise any firther on the subject due to rules but look at other peoples experiences with different ones and decide for yourself.

Softcam basically is a patch loaded via USB and opens up the few channels that are left where encryption is still open via keys rather than card sharing, there are a fw open on 4.8? e, 13.0? e, 19.2? e, 39.0? e and a few others scattered about. Softcam patches are available from this section if you do a search, or make your own with the Tehnomate Maker 1.5 from here

        *!%*!!

I was led to believe it was a Linux box, do you know of any in a similar budget range that you would advise?

To be honest there is a few receivers in TM5402HD price range, but it all depends if you can up the budget a little, you have the Gigablue 800se which is around the same price, also the NewDVB 800, or you could go for a clone if you wish to take the chance of ordering from china. A Clone 800se will cost around ?135. If you upped the budget you could get a VU Solo or maybe look at a second hand receiver.

Thanks for that mate, do you have experience of the DVB800? Is it more graphics friendly? Do you know if it's possible to install things like YouTube?

            Regards,

            Dave

I have not had one personally but it appears to be a Clone of the DM800 which means it will run the same images, Have a look in the DM800 section and see if anyone has one in there, there is a Youtube plugin for the DM800
