What is TMsoftcam and what is it used for?

Hi All,

Am new to Satellite receivers, I recently purchased my TM5402HD and I keep reading about tmsoftcam, what is used for? What different would it make if installed on the box. Please take it easy on me as am learning to sort this out once and for all. Your explanations and sugestions are valuable to me. thanks

I"d start off by reading the"noobs guide to patching your technomate" in the red sticky section but briefly softcams will give access to some encrypted channels here and there IF your box is patched(unofficial firmware installed)

But ive been reading the relevant guides and I think I've made sense of softcams, I've got a tm5402 and already have installed the phantom patch, if I download the latest softcams file and put on usb, will it load on to my receiver? Thanks in advance.

Unzip file to usb, then put in receiver.
Menu-usb-dat transfer-softcam
It will then load.
