TM 5200d USB Super

Hi,

I would be glad if someone could help me with the following questions:

I am using a TM 5200D USB Super with a 80cm dish.
Until recently I received British channels on Astra 28.2 and continental TV on 19.2 (two lnb's / no motor).
Now I have moved elsewhere and tried to set up the dish on my balcony.
I can receive continental TV (FTA) on Astra 19.2 (although the 'quality' under 'satellite setup' is only 20%)
So far I never managed to get a higher 'quality' value.
I noticed that the 'quality' value is much better for Astra 23.5 and ARABSAT Badr3.
After scanning those two satellites, I was surprised that they offer almost the same channels as Astra 19.2
I googled ARABSAT Badr3 (and 4,5 etc.) but the channel list doesn't correspond with what I see on my screen.
(e.g. ARTE, TV5, BVN, several news channels and a lot of German Channels, etc. etc.).
How is it possible that I get European channels on ARABSAT - shouldn't there be Arab & African channels ??

Apart from that, I would like to receive scrambled Dutch channels, like NED1, NED2, NED3, SBS etc. (Canal Digitaal)
as well as French channels (TF1, France2, France3 etc.)
I installed the latest Phantompatch and Softcam key available for my TM5200 in the download center.
The only scrambled channels that I can receive now are ORF channels, which I don't need.
Is it possible to get scrambled Dutch or French channels with the TM5200D USB super or not ?
(perhaps by manually inserting the CAS and BISS ?)

Is there anybody else who could shed some light on the mystery with the ARABSAT Badr Satellite ?

The ARTE you are receiving is either the one on 19.2? east or 13.0? east if you want the french ARTE and France 2,3 you would be better getting 5? west some are free and some are FTA & Scrambled at times

there is no mystery... alot of satellites use the same frequencies to transmit their channels so you are not picking up badr4. when aligning your dish for [email protected] use freqency. 12.692.H.22000(ORF channels) as this transponder isnt duplicated on badr4,astra3,astra2 or eutelsat16a. to set the lnb for astra2 use 11.222.H.27500. use the ORF transponder to peak the signal and once you have those channels(look for ORF2 EUROPE or R.I.C.) as these are fta all the others should be ok. dont forget to skew the lnb anti-clockwise from behind the dish. regards mdt

thank you very much for your answer. So it seems that my satellite dish is not properly aligned. I'll try to mend that this weekend.
Could you please explain why the lbn has to be skewed anti-clockwise from behind the dish ? What is that for ?

Hi Digicon, thanks as well for your answer. I used to have another dish for Atlantic Bird (France2, France3, France5 etc.)
I wouldn't be able to sit on the balcony anymore if I would install a second dish.

the lnb has to be skewed as the signal comes in slightly off horizontal/vertical because of the satellites postion in relation to south. were we are in the uk the further you go east or west of zero degree,s longitude the more the lnb has to be skewed. turksat@42 east is a good example. when you have found [email protected] and have peaked the signal moving the dish left/right/up/down then skew the lnb slightly to max the signal even more and also move the lnb forward and back in the holder aswell. the point of all this is to squeeze every last drop of signal from the dish/lnb. fixed dishes are easy even with no field meter... just take your time and check several transponders in low/high band aswell as h and v untill you get maximum signal on the QUALITY reading on your on screen display. take no notice of signal strength!! regards mdt
