can i unlock cannal+ on thor with a cam if so which one would i need and does it need updating like the patches and softkeys

I think not, the Canal package went to Connax 7.
Could used to open them on the Diablo CAM, along with Digitalb on 16e. But encryption changed, so no dice.
Am sure someone will be along on a minute to confirm.
Can still get DigiTV on thor, for now. -
