    Poor HD channels quality

Recently I posted a thread asking for recommendations on satellite receivers. I had been advised that to be able to watch IRIB channels (Hotbird 13E, 12437.00, H, 29900 3/5) I needed an HD receiver. So I purchased a Technomate TM-5402 HD M2 CI Super+. To my disappointment I noticed that when I was watching these channels the quality of the video streaming was very poor. Every few seconds the picture froze (sound was still audible) and then started working and this was happening with all the IRIB channels. I noticed that more or less similar problem exists with other none-IRIB HD channels as well. Does anybody know where the problem is? Is this common with watching HD channels on satellite receivers? Should I buy a different receiver and return the one I purchased? Your advice will be highly appreciated.

I should also add that I called a satellite specialist and he examined my dish alignment as well as cables and signal strength and found no problem with them.

    Many thanks in advance

What size dish do you have and what is your location roughly? So all channels are the way you described, more or less? Also what signal quality reading do you get?

      Thank you Markwi.
      My dish size is 80cm.
My location is Acocks Green, Birmingham.
All IRIB channels are the same. Also many other HD channels although some less problematic than IRIB Channels.
      Signal quality 70%-75%

      Hope this helps.
      Best wishes

Hi. I have had similar problems with these receivers from 3 of my customers and had to get them replaced as still under warranty. I am sure there is a hardware fault with some of these receivers. Nothing to do with dish alignment, cables etc etc. One moment picture quality is perfect and then picture will go completely with message 'NO OR BAD SIGNAL'. Tried many patches but still same problems.

        Regards.

Hi. Dont get me wrong but the TM5402 despite some failings is still a very good receiver . I am waitng for a Starsat 8800 HD receiver to come over from Morocco next week. I have heard that these receivers are better than the 5402 ie they have wireless and Ethernet cable connections, PVR, twin LNB inputs so you can connect two dishes without the need for a Disecq switch. I will give you a feedback next week and let you know if i like it.

            Regards
