Technomate and cams explanation needed please

    Hi all

I have installed my tm 5400 ci this week and all seems to be working fine. I have also loaded the latest patch using usb which also seemed successful, though i haven't noticed any differences as yet.
I want to try and unscramble some of the channels that are usually ftv with a digi aerial like film 4, dave etc and i understand i need a cam for this.
Can anyone advise me with what a cam does, which one i need and how to load the necessary software.
Also i'm not sure my dish is pointing to the right satellite, it was installed before i moved to the property. Its currently tuned in to the astra sat 28.2.
Any help would be great. Cheers.

    Hi @robsparkey... were to start...

There is a diffrence between freesat and what you can view with a sky free view card... Follow this link and you will see what channels are on freesat...

freesat - Channels - With freesat, it's access all areas

you get more channels with a sky freeview card... Dave is not one of them.

As far as i am aware you can not use a digi aerial with the tm5400 as it does not have a tv tuner built in. It does have a aeriel input/output but this is only a pass through to other eq.

The cam you mention probably the Diablo cam, but is of no use to you on 28.2. In fact if you do not have a Diablo, now is not the time to buy one as it does not open too much at the moment.

In short you will need a sky freeview card to open more channels on 28.2 than you get with freesat. sky is not hacked so no channels will open with the tm5400 other than the fta ones or the extra you get with a sky freeview card.

Sorry if this is not what you were looking for.

    Regards @manxspud.

Ps. read through the posts in the dreambox section for other options that may be open to you...

      thx manxspud

i would consider moving the dish to another satellite or go for a motor, point maybe to thor 1w, would i achieve much then or are all the same channels scrambled?

A Motor would be your best option... for the time you could load the latest softcam and view channels on thor... however they will be changing to n3 encryption sometime in the near future... Which is not hacked at the present... I have also read about gamma cards that open up nova channels on 19e... these are about ?70 & a programmer for around ?30 to ?40... these are rare by all accounts but a search of ebay did bring back some results. I was thinking of this myself... but decided to hold off.

I am currently using a dm500s clone... with a internet connection... Google cardsharing ( we are not able to talk about it here ) I am probably not the best person to to give advice on linux based sat boxes as i am new to these my self.

Common agreement seems to be that c/s is the way to go for the near future.

              Thanks folks for that.

I've had a good read about this and it looks like theres gonna be some big changes to sat encryption in the near future, so i think any money spent now could be a big waste knowing my luck.
So i'll make do with the channels i've got for now and keep reading the posts.
