    Cables & the cold

Just wondering about the effect of the bad weather the UK has been having of late, especially the subzero temperatures on cabling?

I've used good quality cabling, but wondering of the -15C and below I had, which even froze the diesel in the car, would have an effect on the plastic covering or even the insulation inside the cable?

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Cheers

It definitely stiffens the cable up abit when its freezing but I"ve been moving my motor about with out any apparent problem.I"ve only got cheap RG6 but in past years it always seems to cope.
(mind you we dont go as low as -15 around here thank goodness)

the cable is well insulated and there is a current running through it so it should be ok, however a friend of mine had to get his sky rewired because water got into the housing of the lnb and onto the cable which blew his box, so if you are connecting fittings to cables a little bit of insulating tape around the connecter and cable gives you a extra bit of protection

Hi and thanks for all your comments.

I was wondering as I realised that were is a bit of flexing in the cable as the motor moves the dish around.

The thaw has set in here and everything still seems to be operating as expected, so no water appears to got into the cable itself.

One thing I will say, is that I did notice that, while I had the cold, the motor was not as quick as normal. Guess it was just the grease/ oil in the gear box being a bit more viscose than usual. Back to normal now.
