How to get new channels scanned whilst Box in use

On my mates dreambox he gets all the new channels appearing that are now being broadcasted. He says it appears automatically however this is not the case...

Can anyone watch a different channal than the one you are recording?
My eurovox will not do this, not sure if it's normal or not.

i have a dm600 running pli iolite.
whilst scanning i get a fatal error box which says
couldnt open sevice file - create/etc/enigma
