    Default Help identifying chip

    Hi all..

Its been awhile since I was here last so Happy New year to all.

I'd like some advice on how to identify a microchip please - it looks like a Microchip 12C508A (from back when analogue cable boxes used to be modified) - in this instance, its a chip from my downdraft extractor. It stopped working a few weeks ago and, having taken the power unit apart, there are burn marks around the legs of the chip - I'm hoping to identify the chip and replace it.

Any advice or help please. Picture attached (if I've done it correctly)

    Thanks

Model of Extractor is Monpellier MON-DDCH60 which is identical to the BAUMATIC BEDD600SS

Thanks for the adive - info added to post...

I've finally (and successfully)identified the chip: PN8137. Online searches are suggesting only place to get this is from China with over a months waiting time. Anyone know a Uk source for this chip please?

You have brought back some memories with that chip. I remember my Microchip Pic programmer .. I had software that generated different bin files for different models of set top boxes... Those where fun times Dishnetwork had the F card direct TV had the H cards... To bad everything went full digital.. Analog days where fun.... Goodluck with your repair...

They were definitely the 'good ole days' - A good learning curve and enjoyable to do too. A shame it faded away into the distance.

Have managed to order replacement chips but had to get them from China so i may actually have them by Christmas 2023

China not so bad like most people say.
I always order parts from china which are not available in Europe/Germany and always choose the express delivery option, it costs a little bit more , but i always get the package in 3 to 5 days.
