i bought a technomate 5400ci for my subscription card. I know the subscription card uses Irdeto2 and i ask the shop keeper and he tells me i have to patch the box inorder for it to work. Is he talking about Softcam? If so, is it those files in the technomate 5400 thread that i need to upload to the box?
Your help is much appreciated...

You need a patch then softcam. All in stickies top of this section. Make sure that you have correct patch ie there are TM5400 super and non super models.

shouldn"t the card work in the card slot with the official software and not need patching?

Should work without patch. Sometimes a patch has extra updates for the multikrypt.
