Default Soldering station for BGA TYPE MCU

Hello guys, what do you recommend for BGA type mcu rework station. Economic or medium level, I won’t be using it a lot so economic level would desirable, but also quality and reliability also. Thank you

The best entry level hot air station I have owned is the one that I use right now in my mobile serice van, Quick 959D+. It get the right temperature in just some second, it is not to noisy (brushless fan), it has three memory positions for temp and air flow that you use most.
The main reason I choose this model is that is run on just 580 Watt, many other is 1000+ Watt which is to much for my battery and inverter in the van to handel. If you looking for a hot air station for your shop/garage then high watt is not a big deal and I guess there is many other options to choose from.

I have owned 4 hot air stations and from that I have learned that i like it to have:

    - Knob to set temperature and air flow, not buttons.
    - Memory for the settings you use most.
    - Fan in machine and not in handle.

If you are planing to do more BGA in the futer maybe a station with automatic lift of the chip and power of if is to consider, but they ones I have seen is beyond medium price level.

You mean you are using regular hot air gun for BGA type MCUs????

The board itself, will be preheated to lets say a 300dgrs.
And from the top, with hotair, a temp until the solder melts.

    Preheater, mostly infrared.

Thats right, like in this video: https://youtu.be/Aw6Pq7TkDyo?si=NNNPMy6c6_7HM6bI

Rob, I have my eyes on a preheater for a while, but I am a afraid that I put heat on heat sensitive components. How do you best divert heat from them when using IR-heater?

Youtube, there a lots of vids.

I never done any bga rework.

Collect some old prints, and test.

And lead, or lead free, how fine the solderpaste grains, what melt point solderpaste.
    Flux, fume extractor,

    it is all out there

It depends on what PCB are you going to work. If you need for smaller PCB-s it is OK any hot air station , but if you work on biggest PCB it is
not the same story - you will need some professional BGA station who will heat CONTROLLED temperature from up and down surfaces of PCB.

If you want work on ECU BGA, you need at least BGA Station 3000W trizone heater. The power give you safety because dont need increase much temperature that will cause burn component.

The temperature controled by stepping: Each step with temperature, time and speed temperature increasing.

That is for all trizone: Upper, lower and preheat.

The profil also diffrent between desoldering and soldering, size of PCB, BGA size....

I was trained almost 6 months before starting to see result, but this was not great at this stage. That is almost 14 years ago.
