Default mondeo glow light & stall

    hey chaps,

was hoping to get some advice this evening,

    i have an 02 ford mondeo 181k

recently whilst doing 70mph +, the glow light flashes and engine loses power and turns off, after pulling over the car restarts and away i go. this can happen 2 maybe 3 times a journey on the mway and occurs mostly after accelerating from 70 ish

took it to garage who put it on a diagnostics machine and it came up with error "1120 unknown error" (error might not be exactly right)

i've done a few searches and have found a range of causes, mechanic seems to think its a a fuel injector pump and thinks it could be about ?500 (he's going to have a closer look tomorrow)

internet searches show that it seems to be a fairly common problem and some suggest its could be a crankshaft position sensor (mechanic said the car wouldn't restart if this was the case), or even a slight fuel leak around the injectors.

others who have taken their car to ford generally get quoted ?1k for a new fuel injector pump

wanted to get the opinion of the folks on here, is it really the fuel injector pump? are there other possible causes what kind of cost am i looking at?

    any help much appreciated

    thanks

    Hi

My advice is before you start replacing any parts get some body to Diagnose your Car properly and post the fault codes here.

As per your explanation it looks like you have a boost pressure fault. it could be a sticking Turbo problem or any vacuum pipe.

    Hope This Helps

    Ash

You need to get it diagnosed properly mate.
If the glow plug light flashes there will be a fault code.
The glow plug light flashes for many reasons on Mondeo TDCi.
    Some common faults are:
    1. Camshaft position sensor - Modified sensor and harness available from Ford
    2. Injector malfunctions
    3. Fuel Pump problems
    4. Crankshaft position sensor - Usually caused by the dual mass flywheel breaking up and the crankshaft position sensor collects all the debris from it, this then masks the crank pickups at high RPM.

These are just a few problems, you really need to get it diagnosed or at least fault codes read out of it with a reliable code reader.

    cheers fellas,

i'll get the mechanic to let me know his diagnosis tomorrow morning and report back,

it won't be the fly wheel breaking up, had this replaced about 6 months ago

    thanks again

to check the filter of fuel, quality of fuel, filings of metal in a fuel tank
if it is well, test of the pressure of injectors and damaged to exchange. to programme injectors after the exchange
attention !! brown plug in the pump of fuel during the test taken, plugs of injectors unfastened, to install measuring
    minimal pressure it 25 MPa

I've heard of this problem before in high miler Mondeos its something that breaks down in the injection pump and the particles end up in the injectors, having to re boot and go is the symptoms along with the light
