Default XFX GTX 280 Graphics Card Problem

Can anyone shed some light on this problem, as its driving me nuts!

I have upgraded my sons pc and basically put in a new motherboard(ASUS P5Q Deluxe)and a XFX black 850 PSU.
I have wiped clean the HDD and re-installed all necessary files, Windows updates and Vista home premium. Have installed the same graphics card(nVidia 8600GT) and everything works fine...no problems what so ever.

I then uninstall the graphics card driver(nVidia 8600GT), power down PC and remove the graphics card.

    The Problem:
I then place the XFX GTX 280 card into the PCIE slot and make sure it is pushed down fully.
Connect the 6 pin and 8 pin power connectors to the card and when I power on the PC it is dead, it will not start/load and no display on monitor. When I disconnect the 8 pin power connector, the PC powers on/loads but still no display and cards fan not spinning.

I have tried different combination of power but still no joy.
6 and 8 pin power connectors = PC dead (no loading/starting)
6 pin only = PC power up/load but no display and card fan will not work)
8 pin only = PC no start/load, no display and no fan working.

Anyone got any idea as to what the hell is going on!

Why did you uninstall the drivers? can you check the video card in another pc?
looks like the new video card is duff. I had a similar problem, new build pc brand new components did not fire up blamed everything except the video card!. New card was fitted.

It states to uninstall any previous video card drivers before installing the XFX.

At first I also thought the card may be faulty so I returned it for a replacement. Seller said they tested the card but found no faults but will send a brand new replacement, and they did.
(I marked the card i sent back to them also noted the serial)
The new card is doing the same as before!
Cant understand what the problem is.

I would strip it all apart. start and afresh with barebones motherboard connect each component one at a time. Find another graphic card cheap one that works and see what happens. I assume the nVidia 8600GT is not a PCIE. My new build the motherboard did beep at me but gave no display but power was on the board, I jumped to the conclusion my motherboard was faulty, but it was my graphic card that was faulty (brand new). I took out the power supply and I tested all parts fitting them into another standby pc, making sure all the parts worked. Don't get dishearted I am sure you will get to the bottom of it.

I already done that before m8, stripped the PC all out and reinstalled everything one at a time.
Everything works well, the problem only occurs when I install the XFX 280 card and use the 6/8 pin power connectors.

I know its not the video card as its been replaced with a brand new one and seller tested before sending to me.

So now am thinking it may be the PSU/connectors?
    (but thats also brand new)

I have to strip it out again and try another psu.

Thanks for your help anyway m8.

I have a very similar rig.

Things to check for will be loose connections ect, remove all non essential items for a boot ie pci cards, dvd drives ect.

If still not booting i suggest try another psu. If the card wont boot from there then contact XFX direct, they will advise an if faulty, they will change it.

If it boots ok then its pointing towards psu/compatability issue. As stated, clear cmos ect and try again
