Question Can a remote key stop car starting ?

Is it possible if your battery in your key/remote in a vauxhall vectra could cause problems starting the car if the battery was nearly done, you know like battery ready for the bin ? (the key battery)

I was under the impression that the key had a chip in it that spoke to a chip in the engine and therefore if the battery in the key was dud or nearly dud it might not send the information correctly to each chip, is that just nonsense or was the guy from vauxhall telling the truth ?

so how does the key talk to the security chip (or whatever its called) when you insert the key in ignition and try and start the car ? surely if theres no signal from the key then the security system wouldnt allow the car to start, no ?

i had a prob starting the car today and it was vauxhall technician that said try the spare key incase somethings the matter with the key/battery i was using, it didnt beleive him either but it made me think hmmm.

    Hi

If the key fob is with 3 buttons than they do get faulty replace it with new one and it will sort your problem.

    Hope This Helps.

    no the engine management light.

like DFM (Dumb ~~~~ Mechanic) said try the spare key for a day or two.

Did have some Fiat pile of poo in, and what it was the battery was ~~~~ed, (in the car) if the peasant waiter a few seconds for the immo code to be transmiotted then it started, if he tried to cranky cranky it didn't.

as stated the transponder is seperate from the fob
if you hold the chip closer to the reader it might work
also a replacement chip a crypto 40 0r 42 (depends on the system)
can be programed to start the car but a fob battery will or should have no impact on starting the car ?
replace batt in fob then turn ign on press any button for a few secs then take key out and test doors will open and close with it to sync the fob
Today is the Tomorrow you worried about yesterday ......Was it worth it ?

well i was turning the key and the engine or startermotor was making the usual noise trying to start but it wouldnt start, i left it a while and went back to it and it started up first turn.

I didnt know what the problem was so i decided to have vauxhall check it out, they tested the car battery and alternator and those were fine and they couldnt find a fault, charged me ?25 just to say they couldnt find a fault, .

Then the mechanic guy said about the key, he said if it happens again try the other spare key.

    Thats all.

The car is very well looked after and fully serviced etc, very low mileage, never had a problem like this before.

ok, next time that happens, check on your speedo for a light that looks like this

    or

if any of these lights flash constantly, while the car is turning over but not starting, its immobiliser related.

but 2 be honest i dont reckon its immo related as even if the car thort your using the wrong key even once there would hav been an error code for that

how many times hav u had the starting problem

ps. sorry 4 slow reply (2 many distracting avatars these days )

The only time a car will not start as a result of a fob (remote) is if you have an after-market system or something like an old rover (no chip in key) the V-hell system runs of a transponder chip seen loads of these lost through battery replacement oh just a bit of plastic off the key............ its not its the imob chip if you open your key on the blade side (not the remote) you will see it has a small chip to one side or you'll have that chip on the floor that's what connects to your im*o so if you leave that out the key it'll never start till you ask our good friends at digital kaos for a im*o off code assuming you can read the im*o... so if it intermittent like you say id a walk from the immo idea !!
