Unhappy Audi A3 2002 8L0920931 KX VDO dash

    Hi DK masters!

Need help with 8L0 920 931 KX dash in my A3. I change my old MM midline dash with used highline VDO one, then make all i need to work auto correctly except one thin - this dash dont accept my coding.

    More detailed:
VDO dash was installed on the same A3, but 1999 birth date, motor 1,6 AKL, mechanic gearbox DUU.
My car is 2002 year and also have 1.6 motor but AVU (quietly same) and absolutely same DUU gearbox!
Software Coding in VDO now is 00042, but must be 08042 (08 means my type of gearbox).
After long extensive searching of solution, i found that previous owner of dash sold it some person who tried to place it on A4, but have no luck and gave dash back.
At now i have completely working dash, except speed indicator lies on + ~15 km/h, and odometer count distance an accelerated mode.

Solution of my problem i see in flashing dash with original dump.
Can someone help to find it for me?
Thanks and sorries for big post

Do you can read and write the dump from the dash?
You have to change the odometer below 100 km. Then you can change the code to 08042.

    big thanks for reply!
tomorrow i must receive china "vagtacho 3.01" and hope this tool helps me with your method..
china "vag k+can commander 1.4 full" cant read the dash, and freezes odometer (disconnecting of dash only helps).

p.s. i think that less then 100 km on odometer is only needed if you want to change the new dash value with old odometer value via VAS/vag-com, according to the ELSA.
Hope my problem will be solved so easily..

Do you have change the connection type to k- line in the k+can commander software? And change the target to 07 Kombi? Then in special functions chose instrument and read.
I think it have to go.

    all my attempts was unsuccessful..
connection with china vagtacho 3.01 always says "wrong type of dash"
    Code:
    Connecting VDO New...
    OK
    8L0920931KX KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. VDO D14
    Check for VDO tacho...
Wrong Tacho Selected !!! Disconnect and Select another Type!

    Connecting VDO Old...
    OK
    8L0920931KX KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. VDO D14
    Check for VDO tacho...
Wrong Tacho Selected !!! Disconnect and Select another type!

    Connecting VDO C5...
    OK
    8L0920931KX KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. VDO D14
    Check for VDO C5 tacho...
Wrong Tacho Selected !!! Disconnect and Select another Type!

    Connecting Motometer B00/MM0...
    OK
    8L0920931KX KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. VDO D14
    Check for MotoMeter tacho...
Wrong Tacho Selected !!! Disconnect and Select another Type!
when i trying connect any tacho:
    Code:
Try to Connect Kombiinstrument at 10400 bps
    OK
but READ PIN disabled as in previous attempts...

next step was china k+can commander 1.4 full, and it again have not good result
    - connection via K-line goes normal

    - special functions\ instrument/immo try`s to connect

and after that on dash i got FAIL in daytime odometer..

i still have a chance to solve my problem?

    thanks in advance, lawpin

PS connectino via k+can with EDC also have no result..

If you have tryed all different Kombiinstruments and you can't read the dump i think you can only read it direkt inside the dash. But then you have to build an other hardware.
Maybe you can ask someone to correckt your dash.
For correct the "Fail" you have to disconnect the dash from the power. Sometimes you have to write the coding again before.
Maybe its ok when you do this by ignition or by fuse.

Some dashboards can only be done with chinese vagtacho by removing the instrument cluster fuse (5 Amp) Did you try that?
