hi guys can anyone recommend a good remote tester? are there any about that can also test the coil in the ignition too?
prefer something that you have tried and happy with![]()
i need to get one but want something half decent

hi , i have a draper one , never lets me down , but only shows if the remote is transmitting , it turns itself off automatically too.
i also have one from advanced diagnostics which also tests the immo coil , the only fault with it for me is , the battery is always flat because i never switch it off as i am used to the draper , not a fault of AD , still , it pisses me off every time i try to use it
here to check remote cost $100.00 usa made in china.you can make your own coil tester (need coil and led and a cap). you can make your own with no power source.it works like a magnet, the ariel power up and your side with the coil will pull and light up the led.(easy design)

+1 for the unit ray-ray posted, mine works well and it can also clone non rolling remotes. They still update the machine too.
Can you show me a picture of the coil tester?
I have ZERO understanding of electrical principles unfortunately and have to see pictures.
Cheers
been looking at the ad35 i think that sounds good if it does what it says on the tin
Hello I use the keylessride remote tester KR-9424 exelent tool very cheap (40 bucks i think thath cost to me)
but if you are interesting in any more pro I put a brochure for you http://www.jovanlock.com/downloads/J...re-Feb2009.pdf

Meaty, you got it wrong mate. This is how a transformer works. Watch whole video

that is definately and transformer mate.....pmsl...![]()
Thanks MH.
So let me get this right, I have a coil of wire with the two ends free. I join wire end 1 to leg 1 of the LED, leg 2 gets connected to leg 1 of the capacitor and leg 2 of the capacitor gets joined to wire end 2?
I hope my amateurish drawing does not offend any of you hard core electrical nerds!
you got it and battery less (works like a magnet,it power up the led).just try to figure out how many turns of wire you need to get a good "Q" factor.put your cap to get it into range 134.2khz.i'll show you mine ,key chain design.

Thanks ray-ray. You may have to dumb this down for me, I have no idea what a "Q" factor is or how to get a cap range of 134.2khz!
Can you do me a closeup of your one please.
What sot of cap should I use, they come in a lot of different sizes I think.
I was also going to use an arial off an old ad900 I had laying around.
a chrysler rhk has cap and coil ,for a mini (key chain).you can use the ariel off a chrysler to fit around the ignation.(slip over the ford ears and other makes)."Q" factor antenas strength not range.

I found this, this is what we are talking about right?

I can't see the cap in this guys leds, just the coil.
How do you know how many turns of wire you have to do over the steel bobbin as i'm guessing this is the "Q" factor?
How do you measure the "Q" factor?
Q = Qe (1 + Cd/C)
where Cd = Distributed capacitance
and C = Tuning Capacitance
Is kicking my arse!
