ISTA/P is the new setup for programming that takes the place of the old progman.

No, you can use it in two ways.
    a) As part of the intergrated ISIS system, to program.
    b) To update NCS, NFS and WinKFP (as Rebooter mentioned), to program/code/flash.

    Thanks for answers guys.

    Yes, you need special hardware.

That's the ISIS workshop tablet computer and the ICOM interface. ISTA-P is one of the software applications, that they use.

Or you can use the new upcomming standalone version that will allow you to use ISTA/P up to version 2.38 to program any series model using any OPS,OPPS,ICOM (even simple OBD) diag head.

Don't waste your time using ISTA and ISTA/P. U can use an online version with a pass-thru device. All i know the online version sucks balls. It is so slow that just to download the data takes 5 hours then 4-6 hours to program. if an error you have to start from the beginning. Give it a try then you will tell all your costumers not to buy a BMW since they made it impossible for a indi shop to work on it. Good luck
