I don't believe you can brick the module you are trying to flash with an incorrect flash file, this will give you option 19 but it checks to see if the flash file is correct for the module regardless whether you try to fool it by renaming the flash file from another module to the same name.
VASPC over ODIS any day! The rubbish there producing now with these enormous files sizes of auto Dealer software is an absolute joke

Friends, to what such complexity. I use to record ODIS engineering updates. Very simply. And I can record SGO files from other car models. Thereby optimizing or correcting the operation of certain electronic components. For example, on the Passat B6 there was a problem with the electric power steering, the power transistor burned out on one of the control phases. Replacing the electric power steering is expensive. Decided to forcibly firmware from Skoda RS.
Some flash files (k-Line programming) not work properly in ODIS. I test Automatic Transmission VW T5 2007 control unit flashing and ODIS, VAG Can Pro, Abrites failed update. But VAS PC v19 with prepared .stt files programing without problems.

A fully unlocked dealer software will give you more options than any bullshit overpriced aftermarket product like abrites would give you. These options exist so dealers have the ability to try things when they encounter problems instructed by the engineers at head office.In the case of VAG, dealers are not allowed to use Odis E and Odis itself like MB are becoming oversized and resource hungry putting tremendous burden on hardware which is not really required. The diagnostic data in most dealer software is becoming standardized and can be imported in software like softing DTS which is the backbone for VAG and MB.The VAS5054 (edic blue) is a PDU-API which is another standard amongst interfaces and with the j2534 wrapper the options become endless.
Using imported dealer data from the dealer software rather than trying using the multiple dealer software on one machine or each on multipe machines is becioming easier and more feasable as time goes on
