Kill disk is a utlity that can be found on the disk in this thread http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...cd-v11-155845/ it will wipe the drive clean of all info on it which may remove any write protection at the same time. Just a thought I did notice in one of the earlier posts you were told you didn't have sufficient rights to format. Are you logged in as administrator when you try to format.

There are also a few password removing tools on that disk. In fact there is just about everything you will ever need on that disk

Hi Happy_Highlander, I had a look at that killdisk, I tried it but was unsure of what I was doing. I'll give it another read and then try again. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Just make sure that you choose the correct drive letter it will be a complete ball ache if you wipe the wrong drive by accident

Have you tried it in another computer it might be your settings?
Personally if it was me i'd use a hammer and buy a decent flash drive like a Kingston with a 5 year warranty,I have lost data in the past moving stuff using a cheap one and when you plug in to usb just the folder is there but nothing in the folder just vanished!

    Hi Guys
I also have a write protection issue on my memory stick, I have not formatted it because there is some information that i need and have not backed up before this issue arrived.
Is there any way of doing this without formatting?
I have tried the program on zip file but it say no disc detected, or something like that.

    Thanks in advance

Kept happening to me on a 16gb. Couldnt get it working. Untill trial and error kicked in..........

I simply removed it from one USB port to the other and it worked for that session. Reboot and the write protect came back.

Weird thing is. It doesnt do it on any WIN7 x64 machines ive used.

When your posting your USB stick or MMC card faults, could you post your version of windows with it? As in for example Win Vista x86 etc......

Glad you got your problem sorted Frogger.

    BUT

DO NOT BUY CHEAP FLASH DRIVES FROM CHINA

Having lived out there last year I can tell you the place is awash with fake capacity drives - and they are getting pretty sophisticated as well, installing custom chips that fool many of the diagnostic programs used to detect fakes.
There are even fake SSD drives, which are empty except for a chip and a small capacity sd card inside.
