A8 don't start

I have a problem with my car.(A8 2004)
When its cold in the night like -15 C when i go in the morning to start the car will not start.Starter not turn ,i measure Battery Voltage have 12.1 V .If i put cables from another car will start imediatly.
And then i can stop and start 100 times in that day and always will start!
Diagnostic the car then and read codes:
Starter Electromecanic fault .

I measure the current consumption when car is sleeping -almost 120mA i think its ok .
Ok but why its start if i put cables from another car?
I change the battery with a new one and same think.

Can be the starter the problem or the stupid battery ECU?

i was having the same problem with my golf about 2 years ago the mechanic said it was the timing that he had to fix
and it worked perfect after

its now doing this again but its gotten worse over time from taking a second or two to start to now taking about seven

and when its really cold i need to put a booster on the battery to get it to start

When i try to start nothing hapen ,only a little sound coming from starter coil thats all,starter not turn even after minutes.

Today for exemple 11.98 before try to start.
Battery its new.

Make sure key is out of Vehicle, bypass any switchs that could cause vehicle NOT to go to sleep..let car sit for awhile measuring ma draw..as mentioned by fellow member <50ma.
If more start pulling fuse`s disconnecting alt etc... till you find the circuit that is drawing to much current...easy part..repair as needed. Recharge Battery --trickle overnight..connect with Voltmeter(in record mode) on battery, turn headlamps on for a few minutes..then crank/start engine. Now go to DVOm and read out the lowest voltage reading..if below 9 volt replace battery..I usually condem them if it goes below 10 volt.

Also..try tapping gently on the starter while an accomplice is holding the key in start position...if it cranks over..Bad starter. Might want to check the available Voltage at starter solenoid also...voltage drop complete circuit..even POS and NEG battery Cables..

I have done this yestarday and today too .
I close the car and after 20 minutes power consumption go to
0.012 A sow its ok .
Before i write 120 mA but i make a mistake sorry.

Its possibile after few time maiby 2 hours some ECU will wakeup?

Battery cables are in a very good condition,i don t have acces for taping the starter...and measuring the voltage there will be dificult too.

If the starter is making ticking noise would suggest low volatge, or the soleenoid is ~~~~ed.

Charge the battery, then disconnect over night see if it starts next morning.
50 MA draw is the max limit, that would would find on a loaded car, jag, bmw etc.

Is it the battery listed for the car. - too small - cheap china battery, not enough lead - freezing at that low temp - can you put somekind of cover on the battery?

The battery is new VARTA 100 Ah .
I disconect over night ,and before conect to the car i measure the voltage and was 12.8 V.
Try to start the car and only tick sound ,after 10 minutes of try starter run and car start.
Sow i think the starter have problems,solenoid etc
Monday i will try to fix it at garage.

With a fresh battery and the problem still happening the starter sounds like it has gone. If you are getting the click the solenoid is probably fine. We have a local shop rebuild the starters if the customers have the extra day or two to leave the car. The work we get back is outstanding.
If the customer is in a hurry we call in the order to World Pak for a new starter.
A8 parts can be hairy we just finished a timing chain on 4.2 V8 and it was a pricey ticket. We used OEM factory parts.
The only reason I mention that car is that is one of the customers that has a locally rebuilt starter in his 2002 A8 and it is working well after 4 years and almost 100,000km more added to the original 122,000km.

less discussion, more work, an indicator lamp connected to a fine starter cord and watch it catch fire when the turn ignition key to start position, if indicator lamp lights up, the problem is the starter, if not,try find why not come to power from ignition key contacts to the starter, it can be automated gerbox relay contacts That makes the starter turn at the P and N positions, etc.... you can try put positive voltage directly from batery to starter solenoid +50 contact, and you see starter works or no

Yes you right with the lamp but this hapen only in the morning and only with the first start.
Sow i don t have acces to do that.
As i run most of time in the city and i start/stop the car evry days a lot of time i think my starter its tired.
If the realy of selector level is fail you will not hear solenoid never.
