i'm still using an old metcal stss soldering station must be 20 years old now everything else feels like a lump hammer in comparison. I can switch from a tiny point tip to a 20mm chisel and be up to soldering temperature in a few seconds. Can't stand pace and weller although I do like the pace miniwave tips.

I agree IR is best for bga. when working on intel mainboards we had 98% success with small IR station that cost a few grand for bga repair. intels own automated hot air ?78000 machine was 76% success .

Have a cheapie atten hot air stations for 45 quid delivered and prefer it to the aoyue and pace ones as there is no hose so its lighter and easier to manoever and quieter.
