i have done quite a few of these my preference is to take the subframe out
but it is possible to drop 1 side and push the gearbox inbetween subframe and chassis rail
also put pleny of wd40 on subframe bolts as the cages that the nuts are in tend to break, this is not a problem as you can get to them

all diesel scenics 1.9 and 1.5 i drop the frame it makes it alot easier getting the box back in

A job like that you would be better off farming out to a local garage, say www.meat-head-motors.co.uk
i know this sounds strange, ring around get prices, call dealer see if they price match, you know it's going to be a crap job, dealer often will charge xx hours no matter joe long it takes
