so looking at things realistically you have gone backwards in epl terms
That list of players was in reference to the players that were at both clubs prior to Rafa taking over at Liverpool and who are still playing for United and Liverpool today. As everyone bases their figures up to the present season. The basic point I am making is that Rafa is actually trying to build a squad to compete with a Ferguson squad which began years before Rafa was even manager of Liverpool. Liverpool probably needs another two or three seasons of development. More youth players have to step up to the first team and more quality(expensive) transfered players need to be bought before a year in, year out challenge can be expected or even demanded. If that sounds familiar, well it is cause thats what clicked for United...the golden generation of youth players matched with some expensive transferred players every few seasons gave United continued success.

I have fairly realistic expectations and this season United have been the best team in the league. I expected more fight from Chelsea for the title and I thought it would be Liverpool and Arsenal fighting for third. With Villa, Man City, etc going for fourth.

Liverpool are a shambles off the pitch and play football I don't like on it but Ferguson took six years of some pretty awful stuff before he got going. Liverpool are living proof that if a club gets the manager wrong, it can do decades of damage. United will be at a crossroads roads when Ferguson finishes, that transition after Ferguson may not be so smooth. I'm sure us at Anfield will happily step in and fill the void

How quickly present day United fans have forgotten:

"Three years of excuses and it's still crap. Ta ra Fergie."

    and the point is?

if you are trying to say that rafa built a team from nothing you are wrong as i said earlier you didnt have that bad a team to begin with after all you did finish 2nd in 2002

your point was liverpool cant compete to united financially which as i have shown is absolute crap benitez has had plenty of cash and the team if anything has not progressed a great deal at all

to answer your other remarks you state that united found a golden generation that clicked united into gear.well this is also wrong too as united had 2 titles already in the bag before the scholes, beckham, butt and neville's were on the scene it would have been 3 in a row too if it wasnt for the karate kid cantona getting banned and a few key injurys at the back end of the season and also coles continued misses at west ham

you also seem to forget your young talent too as you mention uniteds the likes of mcmanaman, owen, the man you call god fowler, gerrard and carragher so you see you have had youth coming through too it aint just united

but you are right about one thing a lot of people did want fergie out but he did have a job on his hands while you were known as the no smoking club we were known as the alcoholics and when fergie came to old trafford there was a big change to the drinking culture at old trafford and some big changes to make

liverpool on the other hand were not in that bad shape really apart from winning the league title they had recently won fa cup, league cup, uefa cup and supercup so he hardly inherited a stable full of pit ponies and he also had cash to spruce it up too

    anyways rant over

I am only mentioning the Scholes, Giggs, etc era simply because players from that generation are still playing for United today...makes no sense to compare the squads of 08/09 with players that no longer play for either team anymore.

You have missed the point of what I said....

...Only Carra, Gerrard and Hyypia are still playing for Liverpool this season and joined before Rafa took over in '04. None of those other Liverpool players you listed are still at the club so have absolutely no relevence to the squad in '09. However Ferguson still has a bunch of players from before Rafa's time who are still playing for United right now. Essentially Ferguson had a 9 or 10 player headstart on Rafa's 08/09 squad and some of those are pretty important players to United today...Ferdinand, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, even O'Shea. Surely it's unfair to compare Rafa's present squad to players that joined United before he was even the Liverpool manager but who are still playing for United week in, week out?

If Liverpool had a Ferdinand, a Scholes, a Giggs, a Ronaldo and an O'Shea added to our current squad...replacing our weaker squad players in those specific positions. Then I think you'll find the league in 08/09 would have been a lot closer.

Just look at the Fulham tie today, it's a perfect example of the difference in squad depth...no Scholes, no Berbatov, no Ronaldo, no Hargreaves, no Giggs, no Nani, etc and it's a walk in the park against a team who are 10th in the Premiership. Liverpool couldn't afford to drop Gerrard, Torres, Carra, Alonso, Riera, Benyaoun against Fulham...the overall team standard would plummet through the floor! In fact Fulham would probably win against whatever mish-mash of a team we could field without those players. As I said before we have totally different squads...yes Rafa has bought some muck but so has Ferguson, yes Rafa has bought some quality but Ferguson has bought a lot more of it and spent a lot more to get it.

As I said before Liverpool in 08/09 are still 2 or 3 seasons behind in overall development and need to spend a huge amount of cash to even get on a level footing.

Yip...most of the football Media seem to be incapable of studing a few facts or analyzing the data before them. I am a massive Liverpool fan but fully accept we play pretty one dimensional football right now. Just look how many forwards that rely on passing and support play to get the best out of them have failed under Rafa. Still not sure if Rafa is the right man but we need to sort out the club off the field this Summer before we should be worrying about winning the Premiership.

the point is benetez has sold most players he has bought which shows that he bought shite and the only reason you havent got as many players playing now as from his first seson is cos his signings havent done the business

wtf's all that about ?20 million for keane for half a season

your post is all ifs and buts its all a bit like if me auntie was me uncle,i will say again the point you made is you cant compete well you can and have.

you may only have 3 players playing now from when benitez started but the fact is benitez has bought about 20 players in five years that are no longer at the club so wtf does that say about the bloke as a manager when he wants rid of nearly every player he buys

cos as a football team you are no better now than you were before he took over

When you talk about who has spent more etc. I think the best way to judge that is to evaluate the cost of the team and bench at any given match.

    THE TRUTH
    The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

Could it be Rafa benitez last roll of the ball tonight ? if they dont beat Real Madrid tonight and progress to the next round, even in the Premiership with Aston Villa tightly gripped to Liverpools ass, Liverpool coud find themselves in the UEFA cup next year rather than the Champions League ! Fuc!ing disaster.

I think everything is riding on tonights 90+ minutes If they lose there will be no Silverware for liverpool this year, Benitez head will roll.

What started off to be a realy promising season has almost vanished !

What a match ! Rafa benitez safe for another season, at this stage we could nearly book our tickets to Rome ! on the down side we could have 4 other teams from the Premiership joining Liverpool in the next round, its proving the level of the Premiership is far superior than our European friends (no Match @ all).

Hopefully with a full premiership line up Liverpool can progress all the way to the final, a weeks rest realy helped last night (we wont have that again) but at least we made hay when the sun was out.

euro tickets, rugby tickets, Barcelona tickets, Chelsea tickets, Liverpool tickets - euro tickets, rugby tickets, Barcelona tickets, Chelsea tickets, Liverpool tickets

    Now that was a battering!

That was a Rafa team in the first-half or did King Kenny take over just for the first-half???

Lets be honest Real wanted out of Anfield after the first five minutes but still it could easily have been 6-0 or 7-0!

    Same again on Saturday please
