    Default Laptop Help needed

    Hi all

    Not long ago I was given a Toshiba satallite pro 4600 ( PS460E )
, I've tried a few things with it that have given me some headaches - tried to load it with linux , trouble getting into boot up / bios - but that I've now sort of got through. Ended up with windows xp on one half of the hard drive and wanted to put linux on the other but found that ram wasn't high enough.

Bought some new ram to match what's in it at the moment - original is 2 sticks of 64mb pc100 144pin , bought 2 sticks of 256mb pc100 144pin to give me 512mb. They arrived today but on fitting them it comes up with - incompatable memory plaese remove. Can anyone know whats going on and help with it please ? I know it's an old machine but it say's in the manual it is upgradable to 512 , can't understand what's going on with it.

    Thanks , Adam

    Hi adam.
As I said in other thread try downloding older version of ubuntu something like 7.10 as it most likley will have drivers requied to start your laptop. Plus minimum PC specs for ubuntu 7.10 are:
    300 MHz x86 processor
64 MB of system memory (RAM)
At least 4 GB of disk space (for full installation and swap space)
VGA graphics card capable of 640x480 resolution
    CD-ROM drive

    Hi Gregk

I did try some of the earlier stuff but it was still giving me probs. I've managed to get puppy linux to load up and run and am going to try damn small linux to see which I prefer ( I'll give the 7.10 a go too )

I'm just trying to get a bit more ram in it and trying to figure out why the stuff I've got won't work.

    Thanks , Adam
