You cannot use FTP to load image.
If still struggling you could have a hardware problem if no lights on box.
UPDATE : Try this lot (Attached) for DM500 Cable, it worked on mine

    Fixed, thanks!

It was that my dell laptop was "to quick", but I could lower the frequency in bios and then the flash went right.

Quick tips for anyone having problems with the DM500 JTAG:

    1. Make sure the JTAG cable is below 10cm in length, I had to shorten mine from around 11cm to 8cm to be sure.
    2. I couldn't get jtag_windows.exe to work at all, but succeeded with JtagDm500.exe which seems less fussy on the timing for the DM500 power on.
    3. Timing of the DM500 power on is critical so get yourself in a postition where you can use a switch to power the unit on, with the switch easily accessible from the computer. I used a switched power extension lead which was perfect. You are going to find it very difficult to get the timing right if you are just plugging the power adapter into a socket or putting the 12v lead in the back of the DM500.
    3. You might need to try several times using JtagDm500.exe, this was my experience:
    • The first time it hung at the "download" stage (100% CPU, no progress)
    • The second & third time it came up with an error at the erase flash stage
    • Forth time was successful, note 100% CPU during the download stage is normal.
    • Download stage took approx 20 mins

    4. Patience is very important, if you aren't getting anywhere and getting frustrated, give up for the day and try again the next day, use the time to recheck and re-examine the JTAG cable, PC settings etc.

    Good luck!!!

Great advice, nice post, good important info. Needs reading by all who have Jtag probs. Even better if it could be put up as a Sticky.

Exclamation 100 % boot Loader Flashed

    Hi for all

I have flashed the DM500s boot loader successfully, as shown below

the green light is always on (Solid)

but the DM500 Doesn't sense any connections Via Null modem Cable, so

I'm not able to communicate with Dream up and flash new image.

also what's the connection of the J60 Cable?

    is this right connection ?

    if yes,

which way it should be ?

    1

    2

however i have tried many connection , but get failed every time

i hope that if i can find a solution here.

    thanks in advance.

Not sure if you have done it correctly or used the correct software and connections or at least I am not familiar with this method. Most with success in this thread have used the software/files from the Download section onsite and have not been using the connections & software you have posted and shown in your pictures using a 9 pin port. Not saying it can't be done your way only that many have had success with the Jtagdm500.rar or JtagWin5xxx.zip in the downloads.
Sorry, never seen the connections shown in your Pics so can't help you. The only one I am familiar with solders 6 wires onto the dreambox Jtag pins and uses a 25pin DB25 connector and 6 resistors on the PC end with a short ribbon cable between.
A null modem cable needed for dreamup, only three connections needed Pins 2to3, 3to2, 5to5

i have used jtagwin5xxx with Jtag Connection as shown below

i know the null cable modem just needs three connection as u mention above

"2to3, 3to2, 5to5", but my question is; which pins on the dreambox board?

    Hi
It doesn't go to any pins on the board.
Your Null Modem Cable lead goes from the PC's 9 pin com port into the 9pin com port on the back of the DM500. The use Dreamup software make sure 'Use Network' is unticked. Don't plug in or power up the DM untill dreamup S/W tells you to, if it doesn't tell you too then its not connected correctly to the PC (Cable or Com port problem)

    Hi
Make SURE you have a null modem cable and a PC with a 9 pin com port and read my last post for the correct procedure.

    Hi
You haven't red this guide then, at the top of the Sticky's????
    http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...ox-dreamup-33/

No waiting for 5 secs, wait for '''Connection Prepared now switch on Dreambox'' Try a different version of Dreamup if you don't get that message.

    Hi
Re-read my last post again and tell me if you are getting ''''''Connection Prepared now switch on Dreambox'''' Before you switch it on.????
If you don't get that message you haven't got a connection due to, either a crap cable ie not a null modem cable or PC com port allocation problems.
