Default Mk5 golf 1.9tdi troubleshooting noise...

    Hi all
hoping i could get some help with my car

2005 mk5 golf, engine code: BKC, 6 speed manual (GQM gearbox), 156,000 miles, serviced every 10,000 miles with shell helix ultra 5w30 fully synthetic, car is driven roughly 2000 miles/month, mostly motorway commuting so gets a good workout

    TDI engine noise - YouTube

the car has this noise which when its revved up to about 3k rpm and i let go of the accelerator (i.e. to change gear) it makes a 'hissing' or a 'chirping' sound, it does it under load, and on idle. although when the car is cold and idling it doesnt tend to be so profound...this may just be coincidence however

would like to hear thoughts on this please

turbo bearings/turbo on its way out? vacuum leak? boost leak? split hose? EGR cooler leak? where to start looking?

    thanks

i hope its not the dual mass flywheel going, does the noise sound like its coming from gearbox area, any difference with foot on or off the clutch.

no no, not dual mass related, the DMF and clutch were both replaced 4000 miles ago, the noise when that was on its way out was quite unique, that was a cyclical rattling noise, this is different, i linked to a recording of my engine, if you listen to that the noise is at exactly 10.5 seconds.. its like a hiss/chirp

no different if foot is on/off clutch, no different under load/no load..

Injection noise, some cars make this noise when DPF cleaning.

    its a 2005...no DPF thankfully!.

smirnoff, i suspected a leak too, would the split result in the noise only happening when i release the accelerator? (well its certainly more noticeable when i release the accelerator)

was going to suggest looking at brake servo pipe also for cracks and leaks.

BKC Engine Code Turbo are the common failures...........Undo the intake pipe on the Turbo and check for oil leak and excessive movement of the Turbo Shaft..............

    Good Luck.............

    Thanks Ash

Yes that hissing noise is caused by the Turbo..............Simply just undo the intake pipe on Turbo from the Air Filter and check the Turbo...........you will get your answer............
