Default Cummins ISX Speed Sensor type

    Hi members,

I'm helping a friend to recalibrate tire size in in a Volvo truck with an Cummins ISX 400ST2 VIN: 4V4NC9TG66N386XXX but I'm don't know which type of Vehicle Speed Sensor to choose from the different options in Insite Vehicle Speed Source. I know and have been seen that many or most of the trucks are magnetic type but this one reads "Data Link Tailshaft" in the option. My friend knows that other guy moved the parameters in the ECM so he don't know too if this parameter is correct. How I can identify or know which sensor to choose?

    Thanks...

the data link option is for automatics that transmits the vehicle speed over the datalink. if its a manual tranny dont select this

    Transmission Type
The Transmission Type parameter defines the transmission type to the ECM. Set the Transmission Type parameter to the type of transmission installed as follows:

Manual - A standard transmission utilizing a clutch actuated by the driver with all gear changes made by the driver.
Automatic - A hydro-mechanically shifted transmission utilizing a torque converter. Note: The VSS Anti-Tamper feature must not be enabled on any vehicle with an Automatic (with torque converter) transmission. Undesirable operation and faults will result. Set the transmission type to Automatic if the transmission is one of the following:
Aisin (all models with a torque converter)
Allison (all models with a torque converter)
Voith (all models with a torque converter)
ZF (all models with a torque converter).
Partially Automated - A transmission, where some, but not all, of the gear changes are made by the transmission without additional driver interaction. Set the transmission type to Partially Automated if the transmission is one of the following:
    Eaton Lightning.
Fully Automated - All gear changes are made by the transmission. The driver must actuate the clutch to launch and stop the vehicle. Set the transmission type to Fully Automated if the transmission is one of the following:
    Eaton Autoshift
    Meritor SureShift
    ZF AS-tronic (Euro Markets).
Automated without Clutch - All gear changes are made by the transmission and the driver does not actuate the clutch. The clutch is actuated automatically by the transmission. Set the transmission type to Automated without Clutch if the transmission is one of the following:
    Eaton Ultrashift
    ZF/Meritor AS-tronic/Freedom (US Market).
If you intend to use this information to impress your friends, leave it

or if sensor goes directly to engine harness (should be around top of bellhousing) it should be "magnetic type", if it goes into vehicle ecu then it would be the datalink type, as it would be multiplexed to cummins ecm through vehicle ecu

Do not reprogram ECM. VSS is connected directly to VECU (if no Tachograph) and Engine ECM reads speed and milage on J1939 with ALL TRANNIES.

To change VECU programming you need PTT (VTT) + dev2tool. PTT will change tire size in VECU and EBS ore ABS units.

    Hi PabloUA,

This is a Cummins engine with a cummins ECM, I'm using Insite to change parameters, then I'm need to use Volvo PPT to properly change the parameters in the ECM?
Because Insite read it all the parameters and one inactive foult correctly and I even reset it with out problem.
    Please explain more, thanks.

One more time: VSS is not connected to Cummins ECM. Engine ECM reads speed data on J1939. VSS may be connected to VECU (if no Tachograph, on US trucks) only. So to change tire size you need to change rev/mile coficient. It is stored in VECU, in SAK167 processor EPROM.
