    Default Peugeot Immo diagnosis

I'm going to look at a friends 406 2.0HDi tomorrow with a suspected IMMO fault.

I'm not sure if it uses the old 30 pin connector or not, and I've lost that.

So I was wondering, if it does use that could I use wire and crocodile clips from the usual 16pin connector to the 30 pin one?

16 pin - Peugeot OBD II diagnostic connector pinout and wiring @ pinoutsguide.com

30 pin - Peugeot 30 pin diagnostic conector pinout and wiring @ pinoutsguide.com

If so, which pin on the 16 pin EOBD connector would I connect to Pin I3 on the 30 pin?

    Thanks

    It's using 16 pin plug.
Be careful with immo faults. If it's lost keys from BSI or lost matching with ECU there could be no faults in memory.

I think it might be the ring around the ignition barrel, as sometimes it starts ok and then other times the key light won't go off (so he tells me)

Was just going to plug the laptop in to see if it narrows anything down before I start testing parts

Went and had a look at it today, it did have a 16pin eobd connector in the end.

Engine Immobilser Fault as soon as you turned the key, so PP would connect to everything except the engine ecu obviously.

Was talking to the guy for a while and he said it was intermittent. Anyways, like half an hour later I tried it, no fault on the MFD and it started straight away.

Leads me to believe it is possibly the aerial around the ignition barrel as we tried with the spare key too. So I've ordered a new aerial (?22.15) and going to fit that to see if it works.

If not, then it must be in the ECU :/

Have you checked power supplies to engine control unit when it's not starting?
Common fault on these are engine control relays(brown or black relay module with about 16 pins) or other possibility is underbonnet BSI(if there is no relay module).
Could be wiring fault, faulty BSI or ECU.
Hopefully you are on the right tracks, but I'm in doubt about that.
If there would be areal fault, then there would be fault code about that in BSI.
And finally : As Meaty says - French cars always has at least two faults!

    Default 406 immo fault

have you noticed any other faults? ie headlights coming on etc?

your fault may lie in the drivers side sill, wiring and multi plug damage due to water ingress, done about 10 of them like this, same symptoms.

It's not my car. It's my mates

He said he's never had any problems in 8 years of ownership, and this is the first thing that's ever happened.

The reason I thought it was the aerial is because they are pretty common on other cars.

He says it works fine, then all of a sudden the key light comes up on the dash and engine immo fault on the MFD. So then it won't start. Then if he locks it and leaves it for an hour, it seems fine most of the time.

When I had the laptop plugged in, I couldn't access the engine ECU faults due to the ecu been locked cos of the immo fault. The BSI said "faults present" but when I tried to get into that it said the usual "configuring parameters blah blah blah, press validate to continue" and when I pressed return to continue, that page just kept loading up.

Engine light stayed off as well as the key light on the dashboard. Engine IMMO Fault never appeared on the MFD

It was a single plug with 88 pins, EDC15c2
