Although the Dbox1 can be used to hack cable TV, it is much more complicated and it requires a pirate card and a hardware CAM being installed aswell as a firmware flash.

Dbox2 images are written for PowerPC processors that are capable of running Linux, Dbox1 doesn't use images at all, they use hacked firmware.

    No mate, that's not true.

The Dbox1 can be either satellite or Cable, same as the Dbox2.

They are a pain in the arse to be honest

Something to have a fiddle with though I suppose, but not if you're just after easy free TV.

They work fine on Virgin mate.

But you'll need to solder in a hardware CAM, get yourself a pirate card of some description (usually a Funcard), pair the card to the Dbox1 CAM, program the card, and flash the onboard chips with DVB2000 firmware!

So your shopping list will be...

    Hardware CAM
    Funcard
    Smartcard Programmer
    DVB2000 firmware
Something to program the Dbox1 with the Firmware.

    Are you 100% sure it is a Dbox1 and not a Dbox2?

At first glance they are similar but if you take a moment to look at them you can see they are quite different.
