6? Anyway if black screen it's dfu mode, but sometimes depends what firmware/iOS it's on also and version of iTunes.
Download ireb4 run and choose your idevice then try iTunes again

You may need iTunes 10/10.1. By the way nice first post

Try to restore a couple of times through iTunes , it can only take you to 4.2.1 and that can jailbreak anyway, the newer the iTunes the harder things get if your on old firmware.
If it still doesn't try get 10.1 iTunes and run ireb again then restore this could poss take you to 4.2.1 then re-jailbreak.. I will check back tommoz.,
But Fiji or cable may be around to help

ok download tinyumbrella, and in advanced settings uncheck set cydia as host, then exit out and try proper restore through itunes(not custom),then after restore if you have 4.2.1 then use the redsn0w 0.9.6b6 to jaildreak you will need the 4.2.1 ios you can get this from- felixbruns/ipod firmware

Ok sounds like you need to try a few things have a look here at your error iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting I had your previous error and after a couple of tries o managed it by following what I previously dsaid just concentrate on getting it back to normal iPod software 4.2.1
