Download ireb4 run and choose your idevice then try iTunes again
You may need iTunes 10/10.1. By the way nice first post

Thanks ill give it a try i think its on 3.1.3 but not sure
cos its ages ago when i did jail break
Ive ran ireb plugged back in itunes did restore shift with 3.1.2 custom ispw and it starts to restore
then says uknown error 21
and ipod has bitten pineapple on screen.
What version iTunes? The custom Ipsw as to be the same as what your running
Maybe google? But hard to get now, I have it but I'm on my iPhone at work right now.
Are u deffo in dfu, or could u be in recovery mode...
Try holding power and home button for like a minute see if anything happens.
Held buttons till fingers hurt with no response.
Try to restore a couple of times through iTunes , it can only take you to 4.2.1 and that can jailbreak anyway, the newer the iTunes the harder things get if your on old firmware.
If it still doesn't try get 10.1 iTunes and run ireb again then restore this could poss take you to 4.2.1 then re-jailbreak.. I will check back tommoz.,
But Fiji or cable may be around to help
ok thanks for your help
not managed to get 10.1 yet
when i select 2g in ireb without pressing power or home buttons it says your device is now pwned dfu state (black screen)
ok download tinyumbrella, and in advanced settings uncheck set cydia as host, then exit out and try proper restore through itunes(not custom),then after restore if you have 4.2.1 then use the redsn0w 0.9.6b6 to jaildreak you will need the 4.2.1 ios you can get this from- felixbruns/ipod firmware
tried proper restore and it gets to the end were it says veryfying restore then error 6 comes up
Ok sounds like you need to try a few things have a look here at your error iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting I had your previous error and after a couple of tries o managed it by following what I previously dsaid just concentrate on getting it back to normal iPod software 4.2.1
