EPG = Electronic Programme Guide: basically a tv guide on your telly.

IMAGE: The software that is FLASHED onto the box, kind of like an operating system on a pc

Flashing: The process of placing an image onto a receiver, generally via a null modem cable or sometimes with a usb stick or over a network.

NULL MODEM CABLE : a cable that goes between your pc and your box to send images to the box.

FTP: File Transfer Protocol.. does what it says on the tin, a way of transferring files from your pc to your box, for instance you 'ftp a boquet to your dream box'

BOUQUET: A way of organising channels into their relative categories, for instance, sespn would go into the 'sports' bouquet

LNB.. Low Noise Block, the box at the end of dish arm. a satellite dish bounces satellite signals onto this, and the signal travels down COAX cable to your box

COAX: wire that transmits satellite/terrestrial or cable transmissions,

CCCAM/OSCAM/MGCAM etc.. software that sreads information from a satellite encryption card, used in most instances in CARDSHARE.

CARDSHARE (C/S). Again, the clues in the name, literally sharing the info from a card that enables decryption of pay tv.

CLINE (patsy, sealion): Line of text that enables the above mentioned cams to communicate with the cam at the providers end.

By no means does this cover all the lingo, but it a start

    diseqc - Google Search
Diseqc switch. Can be had in 2, 4, 8 or the rarer 16 set up allowing the user to imput from 2,4,8 or 16 satellites from multi feed LNB's or dishes to one output to have 2, 4, 8 or 16 satellites on one receiver.
I have found using these, which are not that expensive, that you can have all the satellites channels on your receiver together enabling you to choose your own favorites from each satellite and grouping them together as opposed to a motorized system where you have to direct your dish to your chosen satellite to watch your favorite from there.

    Multi LNB's.

Firmware: The same as images, when talking about linux boxes, dreambox, vu duo etc they are commonly reffered to a images... Non linux boxes, such as openbox, spiderbox, etc, it is reffered to as Firmware

T and K : Brackets for mounting a satellite dish on, thought of as the best way to mount a dish by the majority of the community.. called t and k because they resemble these letters
