It is not the d2x cios that recognise the hdd. Have you copied the usb loader from the sd card in the wii that works onto the sd card for the wii that doesn't. It is the simplest way of identifying a corrupt loader file...

When I tried the USB loader that I used on the wii that works I got a "Installation aborted Setup was not completed successfully. Output folder: I:\apps\usbloader_gx
download failed: HTTP/1.1 404 not found" error.

So I tried the USB loader that Happy Highlander had ronnie5 use.

The usbloader gx that I use on the wii that works came off of this website: Downloads - USB Loader GX (
USB Loader GX Easy installer (for Windows).

Thanks everyone for the help, I appreciate it.

ck-ok I am using the correct port....the one on the right if you are looking at the back of the wii.....( outside port). The hd is formatted to fat 32 and it is partitioned with the fat 32 as the first partition and NTFS as the second. I don't have a problem with the hd on the other wii (and even a 3rd wii that I have) so this is really driving me crazy.

Have you ruled out the forwarder being corrupt by launching gx straight from apps folder from hbc.

Yes I have, is there a way to test if the usb port is bad? When I plug in the hd the light comes on the front and stays on, it doesn't blink or anything...even when I run USB loader.

One question that hasn't been asked yet....is the gx folder on the sd or is it on the hdd. Whatever one it's on try it on the other. To test if the hdd is bring recognised by the wii put an apps folder on it with something in it then go to hbc without any sd card in the wii. If your apps show up then there is nothing wrong with the port or the hdd. And it is purely the way you are trinh to run gx. Have you gone to the settings in gx to make sure it is looking for the correct partition as you have multiple in the drive

The next option you have is to use modmii to redo the softmod from scratch (well not quite scratch but from the installation of hbc) this will make sure you have everything in place for the usb port to be activated properly

Right now all the apps are on the sd card, that's how I have it on the other wii's also but I can try to put it on the hd to see if it helps. I'll try your idea on the port also, I appreciate the ideas because I am at a loss on this one.

You will be killing two birds with one stone if you put the apps folder with the gx folder inside it onto the fat 32 partition on the hdd then plug it in without an sd card in the wii and go to hbc. If you can see gx try and load it direct from hbc

If USB Loader GX can't find the HDD it counts down 20 seconds and if it still can't find it you get:

    Error !
    USB Device not found.

If you try WiiFlow and that can't find the HDD it shows you a picture of the Wii highlighting the correct USB port in red.

    With CFG USB Loader says:

Hunting device, please wait (90 seconds timeout)

    Device not responding!
Make sure USB port 0 is used!
(The one nearest to the edge) You can also try unplugging and plugging back the device or just wait some more.
    Press A to slect device.
Press B to exit to HBC.
    Press HOME to reset
    Press 2 to reload IOS249
    Press LEFT/RIGHT to select IOS

    Retry: 89 ---
    ERROR! (ret = -1)
    Press any key to restart...

When I plug in my drive the CD slot doesn't flash at all.

    I'm having a problem with;
    Error !
    USB Device not found.

With usb loader gx 2.0 it reads my HD perfectly, but when I update
to v2.3 I allways get this error.
Is there a file I can edit so it can find my HD.

How are you updating to 2.3 as there are know problems but they usually only crop up when updating from v 1. Best thing to do is remove all traces of old gx. Forwarder channels folders game covers and settings etc and do a completely fresh install

The strange thing is that it supports only one of my 2 drives in 2.3. In 2.0 it supports both.

PS I updated after uninstalling the wad and deleting the usb loader map in the app folder on sdcard.

So was the same HDD recognised before you updated to 4.3E?

If it was then it looks like you've missed something when you installed everything. You do know that drives only work in one USB port, the one at the bottom or nearest the edge?

You need to post a sysCheck as instructed so we can see if anything important is missing.

You haven't said which USB Loader your using but are you running these from Homebrew (HBC) or a Channel? Do you get any error numbers or messages?
