ok my alternator is playing up, what i want to know is what other car can i rob one off from the scrappers, spares place wants ?60 + vat for a re-con ~~~~ that, cars not worth it, going any way this summer, what about the little pugs etc, and the saxo ? my alternator pushes 13 volt when its running right rac man tested it and said its dodgy ( goes down to 11 volts when not running right ) im not sure what ampage it is, cheers

yeh sound but need to get one from scrapper m8 so need to know alternative cars incase scrapper not got ax in.

Whoa, that's a bit like saying, my TV works fine when it's turned on, but when i turn my TV off Mr Branson turns off the entire network.

That ON FACE VALUE would be your battery is shagged and your dynamo is struggling to charge.

Suggest you go to 'Dik Motors'

1) Disconnect the battery, put on charger overnight
2) Does the battery warning light come on and off - ign on - on
starts - goes out?
3) RIP the caps off the top of the cells and use a PROPER
'cattle prod' load tester - see what it dips to - limit is 9 volts
check there are no gassing cells.
4) Not sure if internal fan or not on alternator, can you push fan of alternator around with your fingers? - belt too loose.
5) Before you charge battery - MAKE SURE YOUR AT HOME -
or 'Dik Motors' - incase your battery goes dead.
Turn all lights on, heater, etc etc, leave engine to idle for 5 mins
this will drag battery well down, then GIVE IT A BOOT full 3000 RPM
see if you get a wicked SCREEECCHHH noise from the dynamo belt
(LOVE doing that)
6) Chances are it's your smegulator - NEW PARIS RHONE 12V REGULATOR FOR RENAULT VERG1006 | eBay

BEFORE DOWNLOADING SMEGULATOR YOU NEED TO
A) check if single terminal or twin terminal
B) get the old one off the car first and check the slip ring
and brushes.

A NEW belt need to be tighen up after 100 Posts - end of the week
but in your case as top shite poster, 250 posts time - tighten new belt

a was going to get one from the auto spares place yesterday but they want ?60 odd + vat ~~~~ that, ( and he couldnt be sure if the 1 he had in was for my car ) while i was there was talking to a bloke with same problem, he had 2 alternators off the same spares place, 1 didnt work ( aa man tested it and said it was ~~~~ed ) and 1 that didnt fit, his was for a seat ?130 , so that put be off the spares place. cheap shite being used to re-con them. might as well take the same risk from the scrapper at less than half price.

sorted, couldnt get one from scrapper, was just about to fetch one from auto place for ?74 then thought hmmmmm go n see dik its on me way, he put me one to another scrapper that had one, put on at diks, dik tested it and its ok and only cost me 20 beer tokens happy days cheers all for the replys

Dik, mate, ring that pther scrap yard, call them *****'s.

1) Price was too cheap
2) They should have took ?20 + VAT & his Shitreon off him
3) Can you do a post mortenm on the old dynamo - 2 screws,, bolts torx or whatever they had to hand.

or just smash the reg off.
